Chapter 4: Return
The girl let go of Felix, noticing that something was wrong. "What's the matter?" She asked. "Don't you recognize me?"
Felix thought for a moment. She did seem somewhat familiar, but he didn't know why or from where. "No," he said flatly.
"It's me! Elise! Don't you remember?"
Elise? "But you look... older."
"What did you expect? You've been gone four years."
Felix was shocked. There was no way he was gone for more than a few weeks. It certainly hadn't felt like four years.
"What are you doing this far from town anyways?" he asked her.
"I waited for you."
Felix found that odd. "Why?" he asked.
"Well, I thought it was really mean how they kicked you out and all. I knew that you'd be back eventually though."
Felix still thought it odd that she had waited four years for him.
"We should probably had back to town." Elise told him.
"But how do we know that the same thing isn't just going to happen again?" Felix questioned.
"Nothing's changed since you've been gone even though you were really far away for a long time. No one probably blames you for the monsters anymore."
Felix decided that he'd probably be better off living in a town than the wilderness anyways, so he followed Elise back.
-----------------------------------
As they were making their way through a densely wooded area, they encountered a strange creature. It appeared to be some sort of horse with a pure white coat and a slightly yellow mane. Atop it's head sat a single horn.
"What is that?" Felix asked, keeping his voice low as to not alarm it.
"I believe that's what the people in town call a 'Spike Horse'." She told him
Felix approached it slowly. It seemed rather harmless. There was a snap as Felix stepped on a twig and the "Spike Horse" turned it's head to see what it was. Felix stopped, realizing he had probably startled it. It stared at him with blood red eyes.
"Good horsey." Felix said as he walked closer. It seemed incredibly intimidating for a horse.
It let out a sudden screech and charged at him. Its horn pierced his chest and shortly after buried itself in a tree trunk, halting the creatures advance. Felix coughed up blood. He was now pinned to a tree by the horse who seemed to be stuck. He lashed out at it with his fist out of anger.
The blow struck it right in the head, but it was only dazed for a few moments. It retaliated by biting down on his arm with its abnormally sharp teeth.
"F*ck!" Felix exclaimed. The pain was incredible. He looked around for Elise and soon spotted her behind a tree. She seemed to be murmuring something. There was a sudden purple light and the Spike Horse stumbled backwards and collapsed, asleep.
Elise rushed over and began to examine his wounds.
"What was that?" Felix asked.
"A sleep spell. It should be out for a while. Do you feel well enough to keep traveling?"
"Yeah," he said. "My chest hurts and I think my arm might be broken, but I'll be fine."
And so, against Elise's advice, they continued to make their way back to town.
--------------------
When they arrived it was nighttime and so Felix checked into an inn for the night. The innkeeper was acting odd and didn't make him pay for the room, which was convenient as he had no money. As Elise was leaving she heard two people talking.
"I heard he tried to take on a Spike Horse all by himself."
"No way. No one has ever fought a Spike Horse and come back alive."
"I know right. This guy must be insanely skilled. They say he didn't even have a weapon."
She wondered if they were talking about Felix. It seemed unlikely that anyone would know about that yet, but there wasn't a single other person in town who dared to try and fight any sort of monster. As she made her way back home she was still unsure, but figured that it really didn't matter anyways.
------------------------------------
When Felix awoke he had discovered that someone had treated his wounds. He got up and made his way to the door. As he stepped outside of his room however, the inn staff blocked his way. They insisted that he stay in bed for awhile longer so his wounds could heal. He personally felt better, but since he was staying for free anyways he decided not to argue.
It was a few days before they actually let him leave.
