The War

"But you kinda are." Dark said. "Compared to me, here, you are like a little kid. You need me to take care of you or you'd be eaten. Or worse."

"He's not just a kid compared to you. He's thirteen."

Joshua jabbed Florence sharply in the ribs.

Dark snorted. "Arianna knows more than him. Little kid. Also, no survival skills. When that first happened to me, I pushed the wolf off and he bolted."

"Well, when you live the sheltered life of a child before electricity even existed..."

Joshua hit Florence again.

"Well, I grew up being poked, prodded and experimented on." Dark said.

"Yeah." Florence said. "You probably had it much harder than he did."

"And I watched my mother die. And my brother die. Twice. And I ended up marrying his clone..." Dark had a crazy life.

"Yeah, that last part's a little strange."

"And I'm part cat. And my dad used to be a reaper."

"How long does this list go on?"

Dark shrugged.

"It's not a contest."

"I know." Dark started walking back.

They followed.

Dark went in a brisk pace.

Florence was somewhat distracted and was walking at a more casual pace. Joshua tried to keep up with Dark and Florence at the same time, but it was difficult.

Dark didn't bother slowing down.

Joshua dragged Florence because he was going so slow.

Dark was rather amused. "Why do humans where shoes? I mean, I'm fine." Dark opposed shoes.

"Probably to protect their feet." Joshua said.

"Why can't they just walk to make their feet stronger? Mine are fine."

"Because humans care about things like ease and comfort."

"I'm perfectly comfortable." Dark stated.

Joshua didn't reply. He was still dragging Florence, who seemed completely oblivious to everything.

Dark went back and gave Florence a shove. "Move."
