The War

"Alright."

She got up and took his arm.

Joshua led her back home.

Dark had just woken up.

Something seemed to be bugging Joshua.

"What's wrong?" Dark asked.

"I think I left something back in town," he said. It was a lie, but in a way it was sort of true.

"Left what? I can get it, it's time for my morning walk anyway."

"No, you don't have to. I should probably got get it. After all, it is my fault it's out there."

"I insist, what is it?"

"No, you can't. It's too dangerous." Joshua realized that he probably shouldn't have said that, but it was too late now.

"What." Dark started walking to the tunnel. "Dangerous?"

"Umm." Joshua realized that his lie was starting to fall apart.

"What is dangerous." Dark was deadly serious.

"It's a Reaper thing." Martin said, covering for Joshua. "If a mortal touches it, they'll die instantly."

"Well I won't tough it then." She began to untie the boat.

"It's still super dangerous" Cassandra added. "I wouldn't recommend going near it."

"You lied to me didn't you."

"Well, it's not exactly a thing." Joshua said.

"Why did you lie?"

"Because I didn't want you to know what exactly was out there. I didn't really expect that you would want to go get it for me."

Dark rolled her eyes. "Why?"

"Because it is dangerous and it is something that I have to deal with." Joshua said. "I don't want anyone else getting caught up in it."

"Fine, you could of just t\said it was personal."

"Just as long as you understand that I have to deal with this alone." Joshua turned and stepped through a rift in space that quickly closed behind him.
