~~~~~~~~~~~~Chapter 5: Storm~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The door broke free from its hinges and flew across the room. Daniel and Bartholomeu readied themselves as a large figure entered the room. It could only be described as a cross between a man and a wolf, with large clawed paws and a wolf face, but standing on two legs like a man. The two were caught off guard by its appearance, and it flung Daniel across the room with one swing of its massive paw. It swung at Bartholomeu, but hit something that seemed to be invisible and stopped in its tracks.

Bartholomeu saw an opening and took it. He threw something at the wolf-man that made it stumble backwards, but whatever he threw was also invisible.

"How did you do that?" Ruby asked.

"I'm a wind sage. I can manipulate air." He said simply, keeping his focus on his opponent.

"Air?" Ruby doubted that air had enough force to knock Storm backwards. She figured sages must be really powerful people.

Storm was back and ready for another attack. He struck the air in front of Bartholomeu again.

"Unfortunately, air isn't very powerful," Bartholomeu said as he knocked Storm back again, "I won't be able to beat him by doing this, so I'm mainly just stalling him."

"Stalling him?" Ruby asked.

"Well, I'll be able to hold him back for a while, but I can't keep this up forever. You should probably get out of here while you can."

Ruby nodded in understanding and the next time that Bartholomeu threw Storm back, she made a dash for the door. Storm saw this and leapt at her, but Bartholomeu intercepted him with a wall of air. Storm growled at him.

"Why do you protect her?" He asked in a low voice.

Bartholomeu hadn't expected him to be able to talk. "What does it matter to you?" he asked.

"Cowards don't deserve to live. Why should she be allowed to keep her life when all of those who fought for the village have died?"

Bartholomeu didn't say anything.

"And you shall also die for attempting to prolong her life." Storm pounced at him, but a shadowy blade buried itself in his side, causing him to lose focus and miss.

He looked over to see Daniel rise to his feet. "Stay out of this, unless you also wish to die."

Daniel walked closer and Storm growled loudly at him. "Have it your way."

Daniel dodged the wolf's next jump. He looked at Bartholomeu. "Are you stupid or something? He could have killed you and you just stood there!"

"Look who's talking. You didn't have to get involved. You could have gotten away while he was focused on me."

Storm rose to his feet and brought a heavy paw down against the back of Daniel's head. "You're all idiots and you're all going to die." The wolf said.

Ruby had managed to escape the building and had gotten a fair distance away, but the bodies scattered everywhere terrified her, and so she tried to stay away from them as much as possible. Hearing something behind her, she turned around only to be pinned to the ground by the large wolf. He said something to her, but she was too scared to hear clearly. He brought his teeth down around her neck and everything seemed to fade away.
