Opening:
A large blast of fire came between Night and his opponent. Both of them jumped back, their attacks fading away.
"Night! Ryuk! What is the meaning of this?!?"
Night looked over to see Marissa. He figured she was probably awoken by all the commotion.
"He just attacked me!" The man whose name was apparently Ryuk claimed.
"I did not! You were-"
Marissa cut him off. "Allow him to tell his side of the story."
"Well, it all started about an hour ago..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ryuk was sitting on the forest floor, eating a sandwich, when he heard some noise. A large tree suddenly came crashing down. Looking over Ryuk saw a sinister figure cloaked in a shadowy aura.
"I'm here to kill everyone!" The figure announced.
"Why ever would you want to kill everyone?" Ryuk asked
"Because I am evil!"
"well I do apologize but I must stop you."
"And why is that?"
"Because killing people is wrong."
"Your face is wrong!" The figure countered.
They fought.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"None of that happened!" Night exclaimed.
"Don't listen to him! He's lying!"
Marissa looked at the two of them. There was no way Ryuk was telling the truth, but what did he have to gain from lying to her?
What really happened? She wondered. They were both in the same group, fighting for the same cause, so what could they gain from fighting eachother?
"Night, I'd like a word with you," she said.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Closing:
They were in a tree, talking, but far enough away that Ryuk couldn't hear them.
"You can't actually believe his story, can you?" Night asked.
Marissa sighed. "No, I can't. But I also don't know why he would just lie like that."
"It's because he's a traitor! I saw him talking to one of the guys who kidnapped the others."
What's the deal with all these ridiculous stories? If they want to lie they could atleast make it more believable!Night could tell she didn't believe him. "It's true!" he said. "I bet he helped with the planning of the fire attacks too."
"Night! Ryuk was Minamimoto's most trusted adviser and mine as well. Or have you forgotten?"
"I know, but trust me. He's probably working together with 8035."
Marissa remembered the day that she had escaped from 8035. Ryuk had looked so small and terrified back then. There was no way he would ever go back, much less work for them. Still, what could Night gain from lying about that? Night had agreed to fight with them and seemed to be against losing anyone else. There was no way he would joke around with something so serious.
"I can honestly say I don't trust him much either, but the first fire attack was four years ago and he was in the lab then so there couldn't be a connection."
"I know but-"
"Night. Can you atleast try and get along with him until the battle is over?"
Night looked over at Marissa. She was staring down at the ground.
"I'll try." He promised her.

Later that night:
Night was heading back to camp when suddenly he was ambushed. He found himself surrounded by the strange men that had kidnapped everybody. There was gunshot and Night looked down at his shoulder. The bullet hadn't gone all the way through and as long as it was there the wound couldn't heal properly. Similarly to how he couldn't regenerate while using his powers, his powers would be weakened while the wound tried to heal.
He knew he didn't stand a chance against that many opponents without his powers, especially if they were armed. He tried desperately to get his powers to work but something seemed to be blocking them. He remembered the bullets back at the battle and how they drained your powers when you came into contact with them. The man standing infront of him raised his gun until Night was staring down the barrel. He knew he could have easily moved out of the way, but something seemed to be preventing him.
I guess this is it. The end.------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ending:
Night looked up as a ring of shards and fragments of blinding light rained down. Looking back down he saw all the men who had surrounded him were now bloody messes that had been torn apart by something sharper than any blade he had ever seen before.
"You alright?" A voice asked.
Night saw Ryuk sitting in a tree nearby. "What do you want?!?" he asked.
"Is that any way to treat the person who just saved your life?"
Night didn't want to believe it was true, but if it weren't for that light he might have been killed.
But I saw him talking to one of them before! Night suddenly realized something.
Maybe he just pretending to work for them because he's some sort of double agent...Ryuk smirked.
What a complete idiot! Gaining his trust was easier than I thought it would be.End of chapter fourteen
