The War

Dark ducked and grinned, moving closer to freeze him.

He didn't freeze. As usual, he could adjust the properties of his body to his advantage.

Edmund watched Gustav closely.

Dark kept dodging and hitting with fire, air, water, anything.

The usual attacks weren't working. Gustav swung at Dark a few more times, but he hardly seemed into the fight.

Edmund continued to watch. He was trying to discover a weakness.

Dark struck with electricity. Dark went with metal. Dark went with blades.

The electricity didn't seem to work like last time. Gustav blocked Dark's metal and blades with his own weapon.

Dark went to her throwing knives. She got out Soul's Bane.

"Wait! Don't throw that!" Edmund warned.

Gustav glared at him.

Dark wasn't going to throw it. She was just flashing it to tempt Gustav. She quickly switched it while he was distracted with the replicas she had made.

Edmund hadn't been paying a lot of attention to Dark, so he hadn't realized what she was planning until now.

Gustav knew something was up.

Dark threw it.

A layer of slime separated itself from Gustav and caught the blade before it touched him. He looked at it.

Dark twitched her ears and countless wolves pounces on Gustav.

He slew most of them with a single swing of his sword. The other ones put up more of a fight.

The wolves were immortal.

That was physically impossible. Gustav figured it was some sort of illusion.

The wolves were really immortal they were decended from failed immortality experiments that worked him wolves. They could only die of old age or illness. Dark got out her staff.

Gustav continued to fight the wolves. He found it odd that the weapon that separated the soul from the body wasn't working.

Edmund was also confused.

The largest wolf wrestled the sword from his grasp. "I do as the Queen comands." The voice was very familiar to Gustav.

Gustav had no idea why.

Edmund looked over at Dark.

Dark accepted the sword. "Thank you, Gold." It all clicked for Gustav. The wolf part at least. Gold was the oldest experimentin the lab, at 70 years.

70 years ago the lab was under different command, but that didn't mean that Gustav wasn't harsh and cruel to any and all living things he found in it when he took over.

Gold leapt onto Gustav's throat. "Remember me?" Gold was going to enjoy his death.

Gustav nodded.

Edmund could tell that he wasn't afraid at all. He showed no signs of a person who thought they were going to die.

"How could I forget you though?" Dark and Gold asked in unison. Dark drove the point of the sword down deep into Gustav's chest.
