The War

"To what?" Dark did not assume her husband was keeping secrets.

"It's a long story." Daniel said. "I could try to explain it, but I'm not even sure I know what's going on at this point."

Joshua looked at him. Is it possible that...

"Well we have time."

Daniel sighed. "As far as I can figure, that Reaper is a manifestation of my latent Reaper powers, which I inherited from my dad. "I've heard a voice in the back of my mind since I first escaped from the lab, a voice which pushed me towards evil. After I died I woke up in a field of emptiness, likely because Gaia was killed, but then I found myself suddenly returned to the earth. It was like I was alive, but I wasn't in control at all. I don't know what happened, but somehow it would seem that the voice, Darkfang as it called itself, was somehow able to get enough power to separate itself from me."

"That is... a strange story." Joshua responded, "but not entirely implausible. I sensed you had Reaper powers in you, but it seemed like it was cut off from you somehow. I guess that it must have lacked a way to physically manifest itself until it got hold of the energy Gustav stole from me."

"So does that mean Daniel's a reaper now? Immortal and stuff?"

"I don't think so." Joshua said. "Rather, it would appear that his powers have separated from him, taking on a form of their own."

Daniel nodded. "It feels like they're gone, at least."

"Cool."

"Yeah." Daniel said. It was strange to him how clear everything suddenly seemed.

It was not clear for Dark, but she decided not to bring it up, as they had all been through quite a day. "Are you alright, Joshua?"

Joshua looked at his hands. "I'd say I'm fine; if I weren't I probably wouldn't be able to maintain this form"
