The War

"It's like an empty void in your heart."

"Sounds painful."

Dark nodded. "And it doesn't go away."

Florence figured it was similar to the feeling of being betrayed in that way.

"Kind of."

"That sort of feeling stays with you, even in the afterlife."

"Yeah."

Florence looked at his bottle for a moment before realizing that it was empty.

"You sure you're not drunk?" Dark asked in all seriousness.

"Please. Reapers can't get drunk. Everybody knows that." Florence replied.

"Well you're the first reaper we've had over."

Florence wasn't surprised by that.

"Of course," Dark lowered her voice. "I've met a few."

"You have?" Florence asked. He knew this area wasn't exactly a good place for Reapers and that many had been assigned here in the last hundred years, which was rare.

"Yes."

"Do you know their names?"

"No."

"Oh."

"Two." Dark paid for two bottles. "Here." She handed them to Florence. "Drown yourself in them if you want."

Florence drank half of one of the bottles before wondering whether Dark was serious.

Dark was back to dancing.

Florence drank the rest and looked at the second bottle.

It was still wine.

Florence was beginning to think that he had enough, but quickly forgot about that and drank the whole second bottle.

Dark didn't care for alcohol.
